Description
Anyone working in a “bear area” needs to be aware of this. They have to be appropriately prepared for the worst when venture into this environment. This awareness session will highlight basic bear awareness including how to avoid bear, dealing with bears that cannot be avoided, setting up camp appropriately, basic first aid in the event of a bear attack, and much more. The basic outline below highlights some areas of coverage.

5. First Aid for Bear Encounters
These classroom discussions will be accompanied by the two DVDs entitled “Working in Bear Country” and “Staying Safe in Bear Country.” These DVDs are an excellent supplement to the discussion portion of the presentation and will review/reinforce the following:
• Physical Traits of Bears
• Black vs. Grizzly Bears
• Bear-Human Interactions/
Defensive and Non-Defensive Interactions
• Avoiding/Reacting to Bear Encounters
• Responding to Bear Encounters
• Deterrents
• Choosing a Campsite
• First Aid
Evaluation
A written evaluation will be completed at the end of this training program and a certificate will be issued upon successful completion.
