Literacy is a human right, a tool of personal empowerment and a means for social, human and economic development.

Just ask the men and women whose lives have been transformed through Barton Reading and Spelling Program and the Adult Basic Education Program at Corona College.

These programs have enabled unemployed and underemployed adults and youth learn how to read, achieve their high school diploma. Some have gone on to earn a college diploma and find satisfying, meaningful employment.

Our one-on-one training is offered with instructors who are patient and respectful of adult learners and students who need more personalized support or may have special learning needs.

People with literacy problems in Canada have two-thirds the income of other Canadians, are twice as likely to be unemployed, and many times more likely to receive some form of social assistance. Jobs available to lower-literacy adults tend to be the lowest paid and the most insecure and when faced with job loss and no marketable skills, the impact on their lives is devastating.
